Our Instructors

Carla Ann Drummond ERYT 500, YACEP

Carla Ann is the owner and founder of Lake Lure Yoga.  She feels passionately about making yoga accessible to all.  Her first yoga venture was to create a community space in Kure Beach, offering yoga for all levels of practice and always with the option to ‘pay what you can’ . Having moved to the Lake Lure area in 2021, she is bringing the breath of the sea to the heart of the mountains in this lovely new (retrofitted) space for the community to gather and practice yoga together.  Carla Ann is registered with Yoga Alliance, holding ERYT200, RYT 500, YACEP and yoga for trauma certifications.  With over 25 years of yoga experience, she encourages personal expression with energetic connection and creative movement.  With the vision of co-creating sister studios in Kure Beach and Lake Lure, she is deeply grateful to see this connection of Mountains and Sea come together in 2021.

Abby Jones RYT 200

She spends her time volunteering for variousorganizations in the community and also serves on several Boards and Committees at her girls’ school.

Abby especially enjoys being with her oldest daughter at the barn and traveling the state with herfor horse show competitions, and also being with her youngest daughter on the golf course for matches, tournaments, and just for fun.

When not on her yoga mat or at the yoga studio, Abby can be found at her girls’ sporting events- both of whom also play basketball together on their school team (Go Knights!), cooking in her kitchen-particularly exploring new recipes, and reading books- almost always historical fiction.

She enjoys many styles of yoga, but is particularlyfond of teaching Yin and Restorative Yoga, Yoga for Athletes, and traveling to teach at regional Yoga Retreats.

Susan Markendorf RYT 200

Yoga has been part of Sue’s life for over 30 years. Working as a CT Technologist in Hospitals and Trauma centers, it has brought balance, peace and joy to her life. After an injury to her spine, she was unable to continue working. During her recovery she turned to Gentle Yoga. Unfortunately, she discovered that she had too many limitations. She took a Yoga Trapeze class, and found she was able to obtain more flexibility and do many more poses without discomfort. The practice increased flexibility and helped her back pain, with less pressure on the joints and strain on the spine.  This led her to get certified in Yoga and Yoga Trapeze and she has found it also provides her the freedom to enhance her mat practice.

Gwen Gonzales RYT 200

Originally from France, Gwen fell in love with Yoga during a trip to India. The philosophy and practice of Yoga completely changed her outlook on life, opening her heart to spirituality and to the cultivation of serenity. India is also where she discovered the ancient science of Ayurveda (the "Wisdom of Life"), which she has studied and continues to integrate into her approach to physical and mental wellness.

She is grateful for the opportunity to teach and help others experience the many benefits of Yoga and Ayurveda.

Gwen is certified as a Yoga Teacher, Flying Yoga Teacher, Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant, and Pole Fitness Instructor.

The overwhelming feeling of peace that came over her at the end of that very first class inspired her to keep showing up to learn more. As the years passed, small whispers from within kept nudging her to teach yoga. After moving to Mill Spring in 2023 and finding Lake Lure Yoga, she knew it was meant to be! Heather enjoys many types of yoga... but slow, intentional, heart directed flows are her favorite. Heather completed her Samdhaana Yoga Teacher training at Lake Lure Yoga in 2024.

Cassi Dunmire RYT 200

Yoga has always been a part of Cassi’s life.  Starting small as a child doing cat poses with Mom, listening to records and practicing yoga poses in college apartments with friends, and continuously finding it again after life changing events.  She has found that yoga is her constant.  Providing clarity, calmness, grounding, and community all with just one practice.

Having envisioned being a yoga instructor since college, the vision has finally manifested for Cassi by completing RYT 200 training through the Lake Lure Yoga studio.  She is excited for the opportunity to share her love of yoga and to bring grounding to other’s lives.
